Is this an experiment?

Have you ever felt like you were unknowingly a part of a crazy experiment to see how far you can get pushed before you break?  This is my life the past week.

The washer went kaput last Monday on load number 1.  I had to hand wring the load and dry forever.  Went to Sears on Tuesday and ordered a new washer.  The earliest it could be delivered was this past Monday.  Yikes!  I really needed to wash clothes.  Husband was so kind to run to the laundromat on his day off and do 2 loads.  We then went out of town for the weekend.

Was so excited to get the new washer on Monday.  It was delivered and installed right in time for me to go to work...so I didn't get to really mess with it until that evening.  Less than 5 minutes into the first wash load there was a loud bang and everything stopped.  This is a washer with a lid that locks...so I had a washer full of wet clothes and no way to get them out.

I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Sears.  Started off that the earliest a repairman could get here was next week.  After 2 hours in the phone....which ended with me getting disconnected, my son took to social media and I sent email to EVP of Sears customer service.  Hub also called the next day and was told we would get a new washer.  But then we got calls saying a repairman still had to come out to unlock the lid!  I spent almost an hour on the online yesterday to get that worked out logistically.  LONG story short, repairman came out last night and unlocked the lid to get wet laundry out (they are dry but really have to be washed again) and now delivery guys are here taking the lemon away and delivering a new unit.   Please oh please let this one work.  We'll find out soon!

"New"s

A new year of school starts tomorrow.  New room is set up (finally) and ready to go.  Exciting times.

Heading back to the gym tonight.  New name, old gym.  Am hopeful new girl at front desk did not jack up my membership when I went in earlier today to let her know I was reactivating after summer off.  Looked like my credit card with a new effective date was scanned about 3 times!  Old class with new time tonight.  Same teacher but wondering if there will be new people in class...or just the same bunch of crazies I'm used to.

Granola

Unseasonably cool weather means it is OK to fire up the oven today.  The doors and windows are open and a nice breeze is going through the house.  I made my homemade granola (truly SOOO much better than store bought) and am getting ready to fire up the grill to make fajitas.  I hope hub and son appreciate the effort.

Kind of getting excited for school to start and to get back to work...kind of.

Primary Election Day

I was brought up in a political family.  My parents were very active in local politics, but never ran for office.  I was recruited as a kid to go door to door handing out flyers.  I was taught to vote in every election, that every election counted.  As a jaded adult I feel like when I vote in these small primary elections my name is being thrown into the active jury pool for the city and county.  Wrong way to think, Jack's daughter.  While my crazy dad has gotten crazier about politics, I feel I've softened a bit.  I know this is an important process (thank goodness we live in America, dammit!)  I have a new polling place this year (I live within walking distance - just a few blocks - from the local grade school but I've never been able to vote there?) which happens to be where I work.  I am putting this out there...I will go vote today.  I promise....

Regarding the post from May 2013 regarding kitchen remodel...I love my new kitchen! But it did come with one if those dreaded contractor stories.  My kitchen floor was damaged during the remodel process.  The owner of the company first passed this off to the guy who did the work and damage.  No resolution...just a bunch of "I assumed it was fixed" and "you didn't tell me it wasn't repaired."  Then came the attempts to repair.  Two different flooring guys said they didn't think it could be repaired satisfactorily.  All along I asked the owner to either give me the name of his insurance company (so I could make a claim, that's why you have coverage, right?) or return $1000 of my money.  This kept dragging and dragging until FINALLY, a year after this whole thing started, the owner got some sense, called his insurance company and a claim was made.  We had to make plans to be here (again) for the adjuster to look at the floor and we ended up with a check for....you guessed it, $1000.  I love the way my kitchen looks (don't look at the floor right now) but can I ever recommend this guy?  Or trust another contractor?  I've heard through the grapevine that the owner is sorry (now) for the way this was handled.  A little too late.

Music from somewhere

I was in Facebook this AM and heard some celestial sounding music...a cross between smooth jazz elevator and church background organ music??  Did I open up some random clip on Facebook and then not close it correctly?  It was sort of on again off again.  But, now I've realized, it's August 1 and the high school marching band is already practicing.  Unusually cool summer weather means the winders are open and I can catch floating notes every now and then.  Wait!  Are those drums I hear or the morning train?  Doesn't matter...I love all those cool noises.

Get up and move

My daughter has started blogging about her training to get ready for a half marathon.  This has motivated me to:  1)  do something active everyday like walking or even a couple of sun salutations and 2) start blogging again.

There's not too much interesting to write about now but school is about ready to start again so I might get some fun preschool stories to add.  We will see.

I think I'll swiffer the floors now.  That counts as activity, right?
